A Workshop for Families

Empowered Beginnings

A 90-minute math workshop for parents and guardians of Pre-K–1st graders

Every parent deserves to feel confident and equipped to support early mathematical thinking, regardless of their own math story. This workshop is a space to explore, reflect, and reconnect with math in a way that feels approachable, meaningful, and even joyful.

We'll dig into the research on how young children build math identities, try a hands-on task together, and leave with practical strategies you can bring home right away.

What We'll Cover

  • Our own math stories: Where did our relationship with math come from, and how does it shape the messages we send our kids?
  • How math identity forms early: What the research says about Pre-K through 1st grade as a critical window.
  • A hands-on math task: We experience what it feels like to explore math with curiosity instead of performance pressure.
  • Language and messaging: Specific phrases that build confidence, and ones to retire.
  • Practical strategies: Simple, playful ways to bring math into everyday life at home.

An ideal fit for PTAs and homeschool associations

Empowered Beginnings is designed to be booked by parent-teacher associations, homeschool co-ops, and family learning communities. It brings parents and guardians together around a shared question: how do we help our youngest learners build a healthy, lasting relationship with mathematics?

The workshop is participatory and hands-on. No math expertise required. Participants leave with concrete language, research-backed strategies, and a renewed sense of what's possible in the early years.
