Spring 2026 Pilot Program

JoyMath Circle

Math exploration for curious kids

How many rectangles are hiding in here?

Are you 100% sure?

JoyMath Circle is a weekly space where kids move, play, and explore mathematical ideas together. We practice noticing, reasoning, and sharing — learning how to think, collaborate, and clearly communicate ideas with others.

No worksheets. No grades. Just curiosity, creativity, and the joy of mathematical thinking.

What each session looks like

Every session begins with an arrival invitation already alive in the room — an object, a question, a pattern on the floor. Kids walk in and start exploring immediately. No waiting, no wrong first move.

From there we move through noticing, investigating, and sharing together — using the floor, the walls, the mirrors, movement in our bodies, and collaboration with each other. Every session closes with a short ritual of releasing our questions and ideas back into the wild for others to find.

The six sessions

  1. The Object — an intriguing object at the center of the room invites kids to notice, wonder, and investigate
  2. The Shadow — a flashlight, a shape, and the question of what changes when you move the light
  3. The Pattern on the Floor — an incomplete arrangement of pattern blocks; the incompleteness is the invitation
  4. The Mirror Question — one question taped to the mirror at kid height opens a conversation about symmetry, infinity, and perspective
  5. The Hundred Chart — a large hundred chart on the floor with a hidden pattern; kids figure out what's happening, predict, and discover what comes next
  6. Their Own Question — an almost-empty room, one whiteboard, one prompt: "Leave a question you want the world to think about"

A note for parents

JoyMath Circle is designed to be a refuge from performance pressure. There is no right answer to pursue, no wrong answer to hide. Kids are encouraged to be uncertain, to change their minds, and to ask questions that don't have clean answers yet.

At pickup, you're welcome to see the Question Wall — a running record of what kids are wondering. It's one of the best parts.

Parents are welcome to stay and observe along the edges, or grab a hot drink at Crema Coffee + Bakery, which is open until 5pm. Parents are asked to remain on the grounds in case any behavioral or medical needs arise.
